Council 76 - AFSCME Council 76 represents public workers in Colorado and works to improve their
quality of life and public services. The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) is a union that advocates for public service workers' rights and benefits.

CBA - Collective Bargaining Agreement: A written contract between an employer and a union representing the employees, outlining the terms of employment, including wages, hours, and working conditions.
LMI - Labor Management Initiative: Interchangeable with LMC (Labor Management Committee). An LMC is a regular forum where employers and unionized employees work together to address issues and improve the relationship between labor and management. The committee is made up of an equal number of employer and union representatives, and is chaired by an impartial person or rotating chairs. The LMC's goals include exploring issues, solving problems, and enhancing the economic viability of the workplace.
MOU - Memorandum of Understanding: An agreement between the union and the employer that outlines specific terms and conditions of employment, which may be less formal than a CBA.
ULP - Unfair Labor Practice: Actions by employers or unions that violate the National Labor Relations Act or other labor laws, such as interfering with union activities or discrimination against union members.
Shop Steward: A union representative within the workplace who assists in enforcing the collective bargaining agreement, addresses grievances, and communicates with union members.
Grievance: A formal complaint by an employee or the union regarding a violation of the collective bargaining agreement or unfair treatment in the workplace.
Arbitration: A method of dispute resolution where an impartial third party, the arbitrator, makes a binding decision on a grievance or dispute between the union and the employer.
Seniority: The length of time an employee has worked for an employer, often used to determine preferences for promotions, layoffs, and other employment benefits.
Right to Work: Laws in some states that prohibit union membership or payment of union dues as a condition of employment.
Dues Checkoff: An arrangement where an employer automatically deducts union dues from employees’ paychecks and transfers them to the union.
Collective Action: Activities undertaken by a group of workers, often organized by the union, to improve working conditions or achieve other goals, such as strikes, protests, or petitions.
Ratification: The process by which union members vote to approve or reject a proposed collective bargaining agreement.
Organizing: The process of unionizing a workplace, which includes educating workers, gathering support, and holding a union election.
